Tim Williams, oil portrait, Zorn palette

Tim Williams, oil on panel, 30x24cm

This portrait was painted using the Zorn palette, used by the Swedish painter Anders Zorn:
Titanium white, ivory black, cad red light (he used vermillion I believe) and yellow ochre.

I painted this portrait of Tim for the Julia Kay Portrait Party on Flickr.com.
Tim was one of the founding members of the portrait party and sadly passed away in December of last year.
His thread with portraits can be found here.

Hoi Erik, again a great portrait. Great job with such a limitted palet. I think the man would be proud to see his face painted like this!

Such a good portrait. It's amazing how such a small palette is so effective. Love the understated color.

Good portrait Erik, to me it doesn't matter to much the palette , if it is good is good. BTW, vermilion is very toxic, not to be used .

Hi Renate: Thanks for your comment. I missed my blue sometimes but it makes you think about your color mixes more.

Hi Stephanie, I love to experiment with these portraits. I recently finished a very colorful painting with bright blues and oranges so now I felt I needed to do a more subtle one. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks Jesus, I always appreciate your input. And I agree about vermillion, not to be used. Same for flake white I think.
