"Fire and ice", oil on panel

Yesterday I decided to do a portrait on a brightly blue-colored panel to see if I liked the effect.
I wanted to do the background in a strong orange color and thought the complimentary color showing through would give a nice vibration in the color.

"Fire and ice", oil on panel, 24x30cm
Original available

Below are a few pictures that show the progression in the painting. Note that the painting doesn't pull together until the very end.

That's a good portrait, Erik! Nice colors and loose brush strokes.

This one is a beauty too! The colors are jumping off my screen. The orange and blue are so nice together and I like the reds in her hair! Excellent Erik!

Hi Arto! Long time no see. Thanks, I feel I'm finally making some progress lately, and I'm enjoying the journey :)

Thanks Renate! Orange blue is a favorite color combo for me and if was fun to go wild with color after the monochrome painting I did before.

Very well done. I think the background works great. I sometimes do the opposite, orange underpainting under a blue sky and that can work well too. I was curious why you do your posts in English, I'm glad you do whatever the reason.

Thanks Celeste, Hilda and Douglas. Always nice to see new comments in the morning :)
Douglas, about the English, most people in the Netherlands understand English pretty well and I figured it's easier to understand for the rest of the world :)
